Michael Breslin
Director of Safety and Sustainability, American Waterways Operators
Michael Breslin is the Director of Safety and Sustainability for the American Waterways Operators (AWO), the national advocate for the U.S. tugboat, towboat and barge industry. In his role, Breslin collaborates with industry leaders to develop and promote best practices for mariner safety and sustainable operations that support the marine industry.
Before joining AWO, Breslin worked for Turn Services, a pushboat and fleeting company based in New Orleans. Starting as a deckhand in 2009, he has worked in logistics, safety, training, compliance, and operations. Prior to Turn Services, he served in the Louisiana Army National Guard for nine years, deploying for Operation Enduring Freedom and Hurricane Katrina response operations.
Breslin has earned a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of New Orleans, a 100-ton Master Credential, was awarded IMX’s 40 under 40 award, and has several accreditations in marine and industrial safety. He has served as a board member for the New Orleans Mariners Club and is an active member of the International Propellor Club, National Safety Council, ASTM, and the ADMIRALTY group of New Orleans.
Breslin is a strong advocate for mariner safety and sustainable programs for the marine industry. When not working, he enjoys spending time with family and friends in his hometown of New Orleans.
